If your debts are truly unmanageable, a American Credit Counselors can explore the possibility of a debt management program (DMP). The plan acts like a consolidation loan. It is a voluntary arrangement between you, ACC and your creditors. Through the plan, American Credit Counselors should be able to negotiate a repayment plan with your creditors. This may include such benefits as interest rate and fee reductions. You agree to include your unsecured debts on the program and make one deposit each month to ACC. ACC will then distribute the agreed amount to your creditors until your debts are paid.
The DMP serves the dual role of helping you repay your debts and helping creditors collect money owed to them. For many, it is a good alternative to bankruptcy. You will be pleased to know that if you are receiving calls from collectors, when you start a DMP, most calls from collectors will stop within a short period of time.
